The Bay Islands National Marine Park (BINMP) was declared a Marine Protected Area for its ecological and natural importance on June 10th 2010. It incorporates the municipalities of Utila, Roatan, Santos Guardiola and Guanaja, known as the Bay Islands, encompassing a total of 647,153 ha. It includes marine ecosystems such as coral reefs, seagrass, wetlands and beaches. It is the largest marine protected area in Honduras!
The BINMP, is part of the Mesoamerican Reef (MAR), the second-largest barrier reef in the world and shared by four countries: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. Its biodiversity contributes economically to the livelihood and social wellbeing of all of those that live and visit this region.

El Parque Nacional Marino Islas de la Bahía (PNMIB) fue declarado Área Marina Protegida por su importancia ecológica y natural el 10 de junio de 2010. Incorpora los municipios de Utila, Roatán, Santos Guardiola y Guanaja, conocidos como las Islas de la Bahía, que abarcan un total de 647.153 ha. Incluye ecosistemas marinos como arrecifes de coral, pastos marinos, humedales y playas. Es la zona marina protegida más grande de Honduras!
El PNMIB, forma parte del Arrecife Mesoamericano (SAM), la segunda barrera de coral más grande del mundo y compartida por cuatro países: México, Belice, Guatemala y Honduras. Su biodiversidad contribuye económicamente al sustento y bienestar social de todos los que viven y visitan esta región.

Roatan Marine Park is a community-based, non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of Honduras’ marine and coastal ecosystems. We work closely with communities to provide education, training and improve the conservation of marine ecosystems and associated species.
